Plus a great teacher!” Erica Z (student)
AP® Art History is one of those overlooked courses that could be just what you’re looking for. It combines the study of art and architecture with an overview of world history and culture, and provides AP® credit. It is a fascinating enriching transcript-boosting AP course for anyone, particularly those who don’t have a lot of other AP courses filling their grade 11 and 12 years. It does not require a strong background in math, science, English or history. On top of that, TPS AP Art History also offers direct college credit from Belhaven University.
This course is pre-approved for college credit (Belhaven ART 215, 3 credits). Upon successful completion of this course, the student may apply for a college transcript from Belhaven University for this course.
TPS AP Art History focuses on the history of art from ancient times to the present in both the European tradition as well as works that were created in different cultures. Through readings, research, class lectures and presentations, and online museum visits, students will study significant artworks from around the world. Students will write essays on the description, analysis, and comparison of these works. Students will study the connection of art to world religious and philosophical traditions, as well as changing societal needs, to provide the framework for learning about a diverse canon of artworks. This class will explore ways art and architecture facilitate worship and express the values of a culture. Through observation and reflection we gain understanding, begin to see connections as well as differences, and perceive deeper purposes and themes.
